  • Dear First Grade Families,

We are preparing to launch our first PYP unit of inquiry. The unit’s title is “Every Road Leads to Somewhere” and falls under the theme, Where We Are in Place and Time. The central idea of this first unit is that the roles and responsibilities that we have in our family and in our community are shaped by our personal journeys. At this time we ask that each child bring a 4 X 6 photograph of his or her family. The photos will be displayed in the classroom throughout our unit of inquiry.

Class discussions will be held around the following lines of inquiry:

  • Family Roles and Responsibilities
  • Personal journey and how that affects your role and responsibility
  • Change
  • Values: family or school values—tie in Learner Profile Traits and what Lincoln values
  • Community: a sense of community—Play and work together peacefully
  •

  •  An inquiry into how roles in a school community are influenced. (Causation): Example--What would happen if Mr. Milo didn’t come to work that day?
  •  An inquiry into how reflections guide us on our journeys. (Connection)
  • An inquiry into how our responsibilities influence a school community. (Perspective)
  • An inquiry as to how rules change over time. (Causation)

Please have a family picture at school by September 10th. J

    Thank you,

    Mrs. Wetzel
