Dear Parents, August 28, 2017
My name is Mrs. Jill Roberts and it is with great enthusiasm that I will be your child’s third grade teacher this year. Because I will be spending a great deal of time with your child, I would like to take this opportunity to tell you a few things about myself, both personally and professionally.
I have been a teacher for thirty years. I have taught thirteen years here at Lincoln and I am thrilled to be a returning member of the Lincoln Elementary School teaching staff and community. Prior to my years at Lincoln, I also taught first and second grades at Garfield School in Adrian. The majority of my career was spent teaching in a small community south of Chicago, Illinois.
I was born and raised near Chicago. I attended college at Eastern Illinois University where I received my B.A. degree, and I earned my M.A. degree through Olivet Nazarene University in Curriculum Design and Instruction. Last year I earned my Educational Specialist Degree, Ed.S., at Siena Heights University. I have a twenty-five-year-old daughter, Alicyn, and a twenty-one-year-old son, Sam. My husband, Larry, taught at Addison Community Schools.
My mission as a teacher is to develop my students into lifelong learners and problem solvers. I want to inspire in them the love of learning and the joy of self-expression by modeling my enthusiasm for learning. I will create a classroom environment for them in which they can safely practice and experiment with their new knowledge. I will encourage my students to develop self-discipline. I will help them examine their lives and help them realize the futures they are able to dream and achieve!
It is important to me that I communicate well with both my students and with you as parents. I will be keeping in close contact with you throughout the year. I will send a weekly newsletter home every Friday keeping you up to date on subject matter being discussed within the classroom, up coming events, and information of interest to you. Together, we will make your child’s year a successful one. Thank you for your support!
Jill L. Roberts
