Welcome Students and Parents! Looking forward to seeing you all at Open House on August 30th from 5-6 p.m.
Welcome to the 2017-18 school year! We are looking forward to a great year of learning, collaborating and growing friendships. To kick off our year, you are invited to attend our Open House Picnic on August 30th from 5-6 p.m. This will be a time to meet your child’s teacher and enjoy a hot dog picnic provided by the school. You can bring lawn chairs and spend a little time on the playground with your kiddos.
Announcing your child’s classroom teacher is being handled a little differently this year. You will receive a letter explaining how to log on to the Home Access Center. Instead of posting class lists in the window, you can log on after 4:00 p.m. on August 25th to see who your child’s classroom teacher will be. It will be an exciting afternoon!
We are pleased to provide breakfast and lunch for all of our students again this year under the Universal Breakfast and Lunch program. Breakfast service will begin at 8:10 each morning.
School start and end times have changed just a bit. The school day runs from 8:35 to 3:38 p.m. on full days. Half day early release is at 12:10 p.m. and half day late start is at 12:03 p.m.
Our pick up and drop off area is the same as it has been, but we now have a beautiful, newly paved parking lot! So enjoy the smooth ride when you drop your children off in the east parking lot. Students can enter the building beginning at 8:10 a.m. If you are picking up after school, you can wait for your child in this parking lot as well. Remember, the buses need the space in front on the street. If you need to contact the transportation department, their number is (517) 263-2464.
Our first day of school is a half day morning on September 5th. I am really looking forward to a great start to the school year! See you all for Open House.
Michener Elementary is a neighborhood school with an enrollment of 275-300 students. We serve children from Young 5's through 5th grade. With an on-site Head Start program, our littlest learners are able to prepare for school. Our students all have the opportunity to attend Music, Art, Gym, Spanish and Technology classes each week. Our highly qualified teachers and staff take pride in providing a safe, caring environment where our students can learn and grow.
Michener staff and students have embraced Maple Pride, our district-wide positive behavior support plan. Positive behavior expectations are taught and modeled throughout the day. Students engaging in positive behavior are celebrated!
Due to the support of APS voters who passed a bond in 2016, Michener has received many improvements. Classroom and building technology has been upgraded to support our students' learning. Two rooms have been remodeled so they can serve as our 5th grade classrooms and a collaborative workspace. Around the building and grounds there are upgrades and repairs to windows, doors, fencing and storage. The newly paved parking lot will provide a safe place for parents to drop-off and pick-up children who do not ride the bus.
