Parents and Guardians:
We are excited for the start of the 2017-2018 school year. This alert is to provide you with some helpful information for the start of the school year.
Morning Drop Off: Students will be allowed in the building starting at 7:10 a.m. for Breakfast. Classes start at 7:35. All 6th grade students will enter through the doors to the new Gymnasium by the baseball field. All 7th and 8th graders will enter through the old gymnasium doors, closest to the main entrance to the building. On the first day there will be staff members outside the building to help guide students.
Parents, please use the north parking lot by the baseball field for drop offs. The lower parking lot will be for bus traffic only, in the morning and the afternoon. The larger parking lot near the baseball field now has a traffic loop for dropping students off and picking them up after school. We appreciate your understanding as we adjust to this new traffic pattern. Please refer to the Springbrook Middle School web page for a map of the parking lots and student entrances.
Locker Issues: We have had many students who are experiencing difficulty with their locker combinations. If your child can not open their locker, please have them proceed to their first hour class and report this to their teacher. They will be called to the office as soon as possible to correct the problem. We apologize for this inconvenience.
Student Schedules: We are continuing to work through the scheduling process and will notify you when any changes have been completed or made. If you have made a schedule change request and your child has not received a new schedule yet, it is still in progress and they will be contacted when it is complete. Also, please be aware that as we are balancing class sizes and make adjustments due to student adds and drops, that it may necessary to adjust some student schedules. We do our best to avoid this, but it is sometimes necessary. If your child will be affected by this, you will be contacted first. Thank you for your patience as we work through the scheduling process.
First Day of School ½ Day: The first day of school will be a ½ day and students will be dismissed at 11:00 a.m. Staff will be involved in professional development in the afternoon and the building will be closed, please ensure that you have transportation for your child. Thank you for your assistance with this.
The information in this alert can also be found on the Springbrook Web Page.
We look forward to seeing everybody on Tuesday. Enjoy your weekend!
We are looking forward to another exciting school year, and to welcoming you back as we work together to make Springbrook Middle School a great place to learn and grow. We hope you had an outstanding summer and we are excited to see you back and share the exciting upgrades to the facilities and programming at Springbrook Middle School.
Thanks to the generosity of Adrian Public School Voters, the bond projects that began last winter are continuing through the summer and some exciting changes will be awaiting students when they return this year. The building will now feature two state of the art STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) labs where students will be challenged with a rigorous, engaging, and hands on, science curriculum. Additionally, the Media Center has been upgraded and modernized to better serve us as the learning hub of our building. The technology and learning atmosphere of all classrooms have been improved and modernized through this bond project.
The entrance to the building and main office have been reworked to better ensure student safety and convenience for staff, students and visitors to the building. To address safety and accessibility before and after school, the parking lot and entrance now feature separate drop off loops for busses and automobile traffic. Thank you once again, voters. Your commitment to education and the students of this district is a tribute to the community of Adrian.

Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, (STEM,) Foreign Language and Accelerated Opportunities.
Students at Springbrook Middle School are engaged in a challenging curricular program intended to prepare students for the next step at Adrian High School and to foster long term skills and attributes that will make them successful in their future. We offer three different Project Lead the Way (PLTW) programs, two of which, every student in the building will take. This hands-on, inquiry based program is designed around STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) principals that allow students to apply their learning in real world situations and applications. Thanks to APS voters, this year, students will participate in these programs in two new state of the art science labs. All students will take two years of Spanish, gaining 1 high school credit. Acceleration and high school credit is also available for qualifying students in math and Introduction to Computer Sciences.
Arts and Extracurricular Opportunities
In addition to strong programs in the core academic areas, a wide array of opportunities are offered to students in the arts. Students may choose from offerings in the visual arts, choir, band or orchestra. Springbrook Middle School also offers excellent opportunities for students to participate in drama and stage performances.
Springbrook Middle School offers a wide range of co-curricular and extracurricular activities including the Equations Team, National Junior Honors Society, and a wide range of interscholastic athletic opportunities.
Student Support Services
Springbrook Middle School offers many options for additional student support and learning. Through collaboration with Communities in Schools we are able to offer tutoring services and provide an after school writing experience in collaboration with Adrian College.
Every day at Springbrook Middle School is an opportunity for students to grow and challenge themselves. We are dedicated to providing opportunities through which students can gain authentic self-esteem in a safe, yet challenging and rigorous learning environment. Through this environment, we hope to provide opportunities for students to realize their fullest potential. These challenges, coupled with a student-centered approach to instruction, allows students to develop the academic skills and character traits necessary to become successful students at the high school level, as well as balanced, principled citizens as they pursue their goals and dreams.
